Description

The listing, 6 Cent Cancelled stamp The Eagle has ended.

Issued on May 14, 1938, this stamp was part of National Airmail Week, a promotion trying to get everyone to mail a letter. At that time airmail was still new to many. Over 16 million letters were sent by email that week, a huge accomplishment during the Great Depression. Of the more than 1700 special flights taken on May 19, 1938, 43 of them were piloted by women and the first black man to pilot an airmail plane, Grover C. Nash.

The photo shown is not the actual stamp but a photo from the Internet.

I'll ship free internationally to anyone who wins 3 or more auctions sent in the same mailing.
