I have a few Native American items. I couldn't decide between listing that pin or this patch. One of them was going to go on my vest and I decided to keep the pin and list this. At some point I'll have to start putting patches on my jacket, too.

I am having a garage sale in the next couple weeks. My basement is filling up. There are 5 of us putting things in it. They are a lot of work. But good way to make cash and get rid of things collecting dust lol

I just have to stop collecting the things that collect the dust, lol.

The best thing to do is try to get a few neighbors to have a yard sale on the same day, or maybe even combined into one person's yard. You'll get droves of people coming to a multi-family, plus you'll have someone to work with. I really really need to have one, maybe I'll try to get it together next weekend. It's a perfect time of year.

That would be the best way to do it, for certain.

Yeah, I hate it when I get useless and thoughtless gifts, but you have to consider that people didn't want to leave you out, so that's important too. Just be gracious and put them on Listia or something ... or your next yard sale. You might even want to consider yard sale or craigslist for some of your canned food. It would be interesting to see if people are interested.

I'm not sure I EVER want to try another yard sale, lol. If I do that again, it's going to be with help.

Those food gifts sound great, I would love something like that! I think that's a terrific idea and I'll bet people really love them!

They do! Those were really popular. Plus they're easy and inexpensive to make. Living where I do in farming country I can pick up excess canning jars in October usually pretty cheap and there's literally hundreds of things you can put in them. Drinks, soups, desserts and more.

Yeah, I like the fact that my family isn't terribly materialistic, but I still stress over Christmas presents. I just want to give things that people will like, regardless of the cost. But my husband's family is kind of rediculous, they will go to the supermarket the day before Christmas and give a box of teabags or something like that. It just kind of annoys me that I put a lot of thought into what I give (and often save things for months that I think they will like) and they clearly don't. And I always got neat things for their kids when they were small and my kids got dried out art kits that they probably got at the thrift shop, stuff like that. When it comes to my kids, that kind of steams me. I get along with everyone very well, so it's not an issue really. And all the kids are older now ...

I do get for my mother and aunt and the family I interact with, but people I see maybe once every 5 years or have never even met? Nah. And I like to get what I think they'll use or like. It is frustrating to end up with 10 Walmart candle sets each year. Or bath baskets. All because they're browbeaten by my mom and aunt, lol.

Well, it's toward the end of the month but really, you've sent me quite enough prezzies! You'll get some credits soon and be back in the game ... can you drive with your eye issue?

Thank goodness, yes. You can actually have a license with just one eye. I have an aunt that's blind in one eye and drives quite well.

I went a little nutty and bought pins and patches and a shirt or two up there and this is the only extra I had. I really meant to save a few for here but I needed presents. I bought myself the neatest pin for my vest: it's a small circle with an Indian head in the center and Sturgis Biker Week 2010 around the outer edge. And I love this patch, too.

My birthday is this month, and I know they're all gonna want to know what I want. Well, the only thing I really want to do is replace our trash cable-company DVR with one of the nice Tivo DVRs (I have two small Tivos and they work MUCH better than any of the cable boxes we've had) but my husband doesn't want to change the recorder on "his" TV (the family TV). So, maybe I'll just buy one anyway and tell them not to worry about it ... LOL. So, if I really do tell them what I want, they usually don't think I SHOULD want it. Fortunately for my husband, I don't like cars, jewelry, purses, vacations, etc etc.

Now birthdays are for gifts! LOL And fun. And they should definitely be what you want.

So, my holiday shopping is pretty easy. My kids and husband are always a challenge though, but again we try not to spend a lot. We don't do "big" gifts that cost hundreds or thousands of dollars like some families. I'm usually aghast at how much some people spend on kids, even little ones ... all these expensive toys they will NEVER use. I try to find fun and useful things we'll all get a kick out of, unless I know they specifically want something, but they don't usually make it that easy.

Sometimes the commercialism takes the fun out of Christmas. My family can make the holidays kind of that way with the "did you see so-and-so didn't spend as much as so-and-so?" Or "So-and-so didn't buy this person a gift." It gets a bit tiring. I have 2nd cousins and 1st cousins twice removed and things like that and if I go for Christmas I'm expected to buy them gifts. Anyone who shows up, you're expected to get a gift for. *Bah humbug* to that.

A couple of years ago one of the cousins showed up with friends and their little one, and they weren't expected (the cousin was). I thought that was fine if they had nowhere to go, but they had just come from one of their parents and were just tagging along. We had lots of food, so no biggie. My mother and aunt actually sent someone to the Walmart and bought things and were putting all of our names on things for them and finding stuff at the house for gifts. Stupid. I told them to not put my name because I found it ridiculous. Christmas is NOT about gifts. It's supposed to be about love and being together. I've started wanting to be alone, lol.

With most of my side of the family, I've resorted to Omaha Steaks and flower deliveries. My husband's side of the family doesn't like to spend anything on gifts, I usually get his mom and stepdad an Omaha Steaks package, which they love, but for everyone else I need to get low-cost gifts or everyone gets angry with me. The jewelry is perfect, they love it and it doesn't cost me much!

Without meaning to, I ended up with an 1/8th of a beef right after Sturgis. At least it's home raised, corn and pasture fed so I know it's really great meat and I won't need beef forever, lol.

And I'm working on canning tomatoes and freezing strawberries and peaches and I'll be dehydrating corn and potatoes soon. I have a friend that raises hundreds of pounds of potatoes and sells them in the fall. 15 pounds sees me through a really long time. Dehydrating slices and cubes are great for soups and casseroles.

I made a few food gifts last year, like scalloped potatoes in a jar using the dehydrated slices and chili mix with beans and fresh mixed spices.

Since you are into the beading, try giving jewelry to the women. My family loves the things I give them! They probably know you don't have a lot of money to spend, and something you made is probably worth more than you would want to spend if you bought it.

I've got a TON of jewelry made though and enough findings and beads for plenty more, plus I've got some on consignment finally at a shop here! :)

And enough findings to share some. I've got some crimp tubes and split rings and a few other things.

Well, if the folks you are giving gifts to aren't bikers, you can always find nice stuff on Listia for them! I won the Ipod touch last week and that's a birthday gift for my daughter in November. I usually get started with holiday gifts about now, and I'm keeping my eyes open. I'm looking at a lot of the gift cards for Amazon because you can accumulate them on your account and then use that money to buy gifts too. Lots of good deals on Amazon.

Y'know all those little crystal dangles you sent me? I made earrings from all of them and used one pair to repair a pair of earrings for a dear friend of mine here. She's insisting on taking me to lunch because I've fixed a couple of things for her, but I'm not gonna let her pay this time (she did this once before). I'm going to snag the check before it even gets to the table!
