US THRIFT STAMP 25cents....payment for US WAR SAVINGS CERTIFICATE
This must be from WWII....and something I got from my mom's things as a child. Taken many pictures...the green color is very vivid but there is yellowing on the edges...this has been in my album probably 50 years...don't know if it has collector value or not....so am listing starting low. Maybe someone viewing can add information. The first pic is most true to color....the bright light washed out the color but I wanted the detail.
The 25c Thrift Stamp was issued on Dec. 1, 1917. They were to help people save money and finance the war as small loans to the government. Once a booklet that they were saved in was full, they were redeemable for a U.S. Treasury War Certificate, a war/defense bond. The program ended in 1970 and the books are no longer redeemable. The stamps are listed in by Scotts as #WS1. I think they had had a list value of about $2.25 ea. in used, fine condition as of 2011. So, I'd guess they would be sold to a dealer at 60% that, then (and also of the current dealer's list price, now). Interesting piece to see here.
