Well , I only do free shipping or take paypal. I also only bid on auctions with free shipping or paypal. I also check the person's feedback. I've seen several thing's I'd like to bid on , but if the seller doesn't take paypal or do free shipping I don't bid. Better safe than sorry is my motto. Hopefully you'll come back .If you do leave I hope you'll come back when thing's are better for everyone here.

Thank you :) Paypal or free shipping is the only way to go for me now. But still even then you're taking a chance. I just finally got my shipping money back from paypal for an item I won and never got and it took almost a month. The other person never even responded to the request for my refund and it sill took that long, but At Least I got it back. While in the meantime that same person I won from was relisting (several times) the item I won and charging more shipping for it. This is the kind of people listia likes though.

I do hope it gets better soon!! How can we just get them to address the problems?

I sincerely hope Listia staff is reading all these comments. I know personally I have cut way back because of having a few horrible experiences. But with Christmas coming up and the tight economy Lisitia is really the best option for me. I am so sorry to see any trusted Listia member leave.

Thank you. I hope they are reading this too. I'm going to have to have a garage sale now just to get rid of all the stuff I won't be posting :(

I Really thought this site was such a great idea and that it was going to go better than this and really wish it would have. But the fact that they don't do anything about these scammers screams to me that they condone that behavior. The scamming and cons are sure to get worse at the holidays but hopefully if we take the wonderful advice from our fabulous memebers here then we can watch our backs better and avoid this altogether :)

I am too. I too hope listia.com powers that be are reading this! I actually asked that people be verified PRIOR to them being able to list an auction after getting scammed but do they listen???????????? Nooooooooooooo! Would also save Listia time and effort to see if the new member w/ zero feedback will honor the auction or not. If they verify i think they're more likely to honor it. If not they probably are thinking what they can get away with! NOT! I will NOT release ANY credits WITHOUT having received the item to MY satisfaction! :) Think others should do the same! : )

Well if they don't listen , the site will fail. Bottom line. If they want to keep the site up they had better make some changes .... very quickly. They will lose all the honest people.

I'm sorry that you and others have had misfortunes, but others please don't let this stop you from having fun on listia. Just use caution. With any new site there are going to be bugs. Facebook, myspace, ebay, and many have all had similar issues. What is going to make a site like listia last is us as members to stick by there side, and help them weed out those that are discrediting and ruining their site. Help by flaging auctions that seem suspicous, and always if there is an issue with a seller or buyer send it to listia to have them look over it. If enough people are doing this then it will be easier for listia to weed out the bad apples. I don't think they are ignoring comments, just trying to figure out new ways to help control the issue. You have to look at it from there point of view. Think of the hundreds of thousands of people that are members, and how many are having the same or similar issues.

Thank you for listing this wonderful auction, and I hope the best of luck to you. And I will be watching.

Thanks, I really hope you see something you like too. You have some wonderful advice... Use Caution!!! I just feel bad when I see something I really like but am afraid to bid because I don't feel comfortable with the seller for whatever reason and don't want to take a chance on losing out again :( I certainly know not everybody is here just to take advantage because there really are some fabulous and generous members, but ther Are some who are only here for that reason and it's ruining it for me at this point. I know it'll get better and I hope it does Soon. Happy Bidding :)

HI Amy-sorry to see you go! I guess I've been pretty lucky here but I was on ebay too so I always look at feedbk! I've had a few times where I didn't get something and even forgot about it but listia sends a reminder about it which I think is great! then I also had 2 times where I misplaced the item I was selling and had trouble finding the same beads to make a copy and the buyers put in a dispute but then we were able to resolve both it both times.(1 canceled amicably, the other I made a necklace to match the earrings she had won to make up for it & she loved it-thank goodness!)
about the huge bids! is that on the level? I guess some of you just have so many credits that you bid through the roof!
Aso Listia has grown so much in 1 year-it must be a lot to handle!
I for one share it all the time on facebook! love the extra credits and customers but that also makes for more competition for stuff I want to so its a double edged sword! Hope you decide to give it another try amy! godd luck!

I'm with Natahoa, Listia really should verify members w/ paypal. And another thing..only pay s/h thru purchases/goods b/c if you do it as a personal / gift paypal will NOT give you back your money! Months ago i was ripped off on 11 auctions that ended w/in minutes of each other to the tune of $45 in s/h ! I got back over 8500 credits but was out the s/h.
Now if i have to pay s/h it will only be thru purchases/gifts and i'm willing to add a dollar or so to cover their fees and to get del conf which is now free if done thru paypal.! :)
I also watch the feedback and read it very detailed b4 bidding. And like you i'm block happy! Why should i allow someone to bid and possibly cause problems and neg feedback that i work very very hard to avoid?! Good luck w/ your auction.
Lynnie! :)
Sep 7th, 2010 at 5:32:04 PM PDT by
Original
Thank you Lynnie. Geez, that is horrible, I for sure wouldn't be here if I had lost that much, that's Really Bad!! Maybe they should have a training video for "How to not get ripped off on Lista"? We all have Very valid suggestions they could include (and would be mandatory on Any legitimate site)... if only they were willing to address the issues. EVERY member should be verified period, if they want something for free they need to do what's necessary to be involved. That would also make sure the ones who are under 18 and just here to stir things up don't even get the opportunity.

I firmly believe that about paypal, but in all honesty I do accpet s&h pmts that way (to avoid the paypal fees) or if the winner doesn't feel comfortable paying like that then I include the paypal fees but it's strictly up to them, what they are comfortable with. I have absolutely no problem paying the shipping on items that I get for FREE but like you said I won't pay that way or I will include the fees in the pmt. It's just not worth the risk of not getting your money back if they decide to rip you off.

The issue I have with the Feedback, which I just experienced, is that there are Bullies here that will harass the moderators until they get "their way", which is usually No negative feedback left for them. The moderators will just change it (and you don't even realize it's happened because they do it behind your back) to whatever they feel like at the moment or what the person wants it to be, it's usually neutral, but I've even seen them changed to positive too. So, you really can't go by that. Also there are people who are afraid to leave negative feedback for whatever reason, even if they got scammed. So, I don't know how accurate it really is afterall...

I have bid on several auctions and not gotten my items as well loosing the shipping that was sent it is really disappointing especially since I had an accident on a bus here and am no longer able to work, as such I have been trying to get things for my 2 year old to keep him busy and out of trouble. Personnally when I send any auction out I send it with delivery confirmation that way they can not deny recieving it , and all scammers are blocked. supposedly you can not make more than one account per computer address, but I too have seen this happen. if it something small or light weight I send it certified or signature confirmation. we will relly miss you here. I too will be leaving soon as due to my back injury I am no longer able to make multiple trips to the post office and even if you post everything at once sometimes you have to wait weeks for the shipping and then they are in a rush to get the stuff after you had to keep the stuff sitting around taking up space forever.

I DO want to see the good in people, but then scam after scam after scam I'm just getting very discouraged. I still have Tons of stuff I was going to list so I may stick around for a short while, but I haven't really seen anything that I Have To Have here lately anyway, so who knows.
Sep 12th, 2010 at 11:06:02 AM PDT by

Just had to leave a negative feedback.. I don't usually if things are resolved amicably.
I won an auction for a winnie the pooh crib set for over 1600 credits! Never received. Finally put in a dispute.. said they were moving and would get it out that week. Still nothing. (should only take 2-3 days AT MOST to go from Ga to Fl) . So finally got with listiakevin who sent a message for her to let him know if it was sent , if there's a delivery confirmation # etc. We saw where the scammer actually was on listia.com (dates of last log in are public) AFTER listiakevin sent the message. Ignored him..
Finally they returned my credits.
I rather would've had the item NOT my credits back but if i'm NOT going to get the item then YES i do deserve my credits back and the person not for not sending it (there can be a gazillion reasons or excuses why an item wasn't sent) but TO IGNORE not only MY messages but that of listia.com's mod listiakevin felt i should warn others of this experince w/ negative feedback!

Awe Lynnie, I'm so sorry that happened :( I'm just glad you got your credits back, These people who do that are Amazing... when you tell them you know they've been on listia because you saw their logins and they could've easily answered your email (or especially from a moderator) they think you're the one that's being Nosey... that's what I got the other day from some lame brain! Blah to all the scammers, they should have their own website where they can just scam each other!
Can you shoot me an email and let me know who I need to block... if they aren't already? Thanks hun!

you will definitely be missed! I have had the same thing happen to me and as a single mom, money is REALLY tight for me and one member got $15 from me for s&h and I never got the items! Too bad Listia doesn't refund shipping when that happens like ebay does!
Sep 11th, 2010 at 2:48:49 PM PDT by

You're so sweet, thank you :) I agree, they really should refund ALL of our stolen shipping money, wouldn't that be nice!!! But I don't see that happening because that one thing saves them from having to take responsiblity for THEIR website.

The people who scam and steal on a FREE site are really in a class of their own and hopefully will have to deal with karma on a much larger scale. Stealing money from single parents and disabled/retired people is completely pathetic!

It's sad, because I don't really want to but I'm just getting very tired of being taken advantage of constantly... I know you have to take the good with the bad but the Bad is getting Very Bad! I try to give people the benefit of the doubt and end up getting scammed, losing money plus a Lot of credits for weeks at a time. Then I feel like I have to jump through hoops to even get my credits refunded as well as be harassed and insulted by these people in the process. Listia obviously doesn't mind their behavior so I'll just go back to craigslist or ebay.

You have been a Pleasure to work with and One of the best members here :)

My best advice is to buy from trusted members, and the people who have no feedback who buy from you, dont leave them feedback til they leave it for you.

I have noticed alot more newbies lately, and they thikn they are slick. I have a good memory and I have seen people bid on my silly bandz with different names, but when they send me their address, they are the same person. That makes me mad. Thats the reason everything here is so expensive now. People making all these new account sand generating all of these free credits is killing the listia economy.

Remember when a nintendo wii system used to go for 8000? Now they go for 40k.

Its rediculous.

Another tip if you are getting shafted, charge for shipping. At least that way you dont lose anything, and if they dont pay you can just relist.

I'd hate to see you go, I enjoy you as a seller and a customer :(
Sep 3rd, 2010 at 9:31:59 AM PDT by

I know, the listia economy is going Crazy these days, things here are getting Very expensive.
Normally I do only bid from trusted sellers, I just see something I really want and all my reasoning goes right out the window, I just want the item so I give them the benefit of the doubt. I was a newbie here once too and people took a chance on me but you would think that I should've learned that lesson by now. I think I have :)

Thank you for the advice sweetie =D... This is one of listia's Shining "Stars" right here!!

I'm relatively new, but I've learned to be very careful - I've sent s&h money a few times and gotten nothing- I only do free shipping now, or if I bid on auctions that require s&h it's only from the members that have good standing and feedback. I hate to see anyone have to leave such a fun site~
Sep 3rd, 2010 at 2:08:22 PM PDT by
Original
I know, I don't want to go, but it's getting so bad here lately! It's not even noon here yet and just today I just got 2 emails from people I won from (who had good feedback at the time that I bid) that the items have NOT been sent and no indication as to when they will be. That's another issue, they could be fine, and have wonderful feedback, when you bid then start the shady stuff after they get the credits they need from you and it all goes downhill from there.

I really should take my own advice though... I tell everybody who asks those exact same things but then I go and take a chance on somebody. Maybe I'm just a slow learner :( or very naive.

Sep 3rd, 2010 at 10:22:35 PM PDT by

Thank you!! I sincerely Hope you don't get ripped off here. Just check feedback, be very curious if they charge for shipping (especially if they only accept cash) and only bid on established members is my advice to you :)

With the extreme success and growth of this site, I'm sure it's drawing a lot of scammers or maybe teens who are just "having fun" or looking to see what they can get away with. I'm sure Listia has its hands full trying to find ways to deal with all this. My guess is that they will find ways to help reduce this sort of behavior, but will probably have to implement new rules to do it.

I personally would like to see them REQUIRE the Paypal verification for any seller requesting shipping fees and REQUIRE that all shipping fees be sent to Paypal. This will keep all the youngsters not old enough to have a credit card off Listia ... they could still participate, but would not be able to get involved with any type of cash/shipping fee transactions.

I think if you check back into Listia in another year you'll see a LOT of changes to address some of the issues, some that even the honest people may not like much, but will help reduce the craziness.
Sep 4th, 2010 at 9:07:07 AM PDT by
Original
Now that you mention it I've come across several members who are obviously Not adults, so I don't know if listia needs a better screening for members process or what but that really needs to be addressed soon and maybe that will eliminate some of the problems here. Maybe it would be as simple as checking the facebook account they have associated with their listia account?

I also firmly agree with you about paypal, not only is it the safest way to pay for anything but it would also weed out a lot of the people who only accept cash so they can scam people and say they never received it. I absolutely will Not send cash to anybody, there's no getting it back.

You personally have been a pleasure to work with, I know for a fact that you would never take advantage of anybody and you are an absolute asset to this site =D
