Description

The listing, 1884 Seated Dime Love Token-MUST SEE!!! has ended.

Alright this is a one of a kind auction and I hope it goes really really well. This is first off an 1884 seated dime, how often do you come across those. The second great part of this coin is that it is a love token. This means back in the day a blacksmith took this coin and shaved off the backside and engraved it with some initials that someone wanted or he wanted to do, thats why there is a mark on the front side. The initials I believe contain the letters JLB but i am not sure, you can see what you think from the pictures. This is a great coin for any collector. Very hard to find, goodluck and thank you for looking.

The marks across the middle of the front of the coin, do you know what that is?

That mark is from the tool the blacksmiths would use to create what is on the back on the coin, most love tokens I have seen have the mark.

Looks like a metal detecting find??? I have many of these, none have this "dent" as you say..These were done by jewelers and engravers, not black smiths. The initials are carved in the coin, not hammered.

No it was not a metal detecting find, it been in a box of my grandfathers for some time.

Looks like it may have have been part of a ring. Their appears to be some extra metal on the front of the coin, perhaps where a band would have attached, thus showing the initials? Neat item none the less!

Just guessing based on the wear mark across the center of the dime, something appears to have been attached?

It's an intersting hobby to add love tokens to your coin collection. I've started doing that and everytime I show the to other collectors the oooh's and aaahs' in the room are priceless . I'll be back for this!!
