Have you checked to make sure manufacturers signed drivers are still present on the on the HDD? Meaning does OS install show a (c) drive partition, or is it blank?

The only reason I ask is that often when someone wipes a drive they inadvertently wipe the signed HDD drivers as well, which tends to render the HDD virtually unusable.
