Questions & Comments
In the picture above is that what the Red Cake would look like ? If so, I don't think that is the Red Cake. I think you may have found a different a different type of cake recipe The cake in the pic looks very nice, one thing The Red Cake is the color red. It is chocolate flavor but making it red is the secret . Many years ago I knew a lady who ate the Red Cake at the Waldorf in NYC, after the meal she asked the waiter for the recipe. He replied sure & returned with the recipe & a charge for $300.00 for divulging the recipe. That lady, years later wrote a cookbook & called it the $300.00 cake. I have a copy of the cookbook. I have made the cake many times, but the Red Cake I make is red in color with white frosting, but tastes like a very rich chocolate cake. My story comes from Iowa, maybe there are similar stories from different areas ? I'm almost 60 yrs old & this is the story I was told & the cookbook I have was written in the 1970's. Not bashing your recipe just wanted to let you know there is more then one tale about the famous Waldorf Astoria Red Cake !!!
