ORIGINAL IMPERIAL TAGS
Imperial Glass made this 2-piece purple slag marble glass owl covered jar (Mold #800) for only two years: 1975-1976. While there are slag glass owls by other companies during the period, Imperial's version is clearly superior.
The interior of Imperial's slag glass owl is designed as a candy, mustard or other condiment jar. The exterior is an owl with intelligence and personality. Its glass eyes seem to focus on you under bushy eyebrows and backward pointed ears. Its feathered ruff covers a rim which fits into the base to keep contents fresh. Wing feathers extend from top to bottom and colors blend so it looks all of a piece. He perches on a sturdy base that won't tip over or spill contents. Glossy finish highlights the detailed design of body feathers, talons, and feathers around the eyes.

Colors on this particular owl are outstanding. Deep purple at the base changes to ribbons of lavender, light blue, grey and white as you move up the bird. Swirls and dips seem to follow the feathers, enhancing the overall design. Even his top knot ends with a flourishing swirl! Measures 4" W x 6-5/8" H.

Imperial Glass was one of four American glass makers to revive the slag marble glass market in the 1960's Imperial introduced 33 items between 1966 and l975. Some w/origins in the 1850's. The blue sticker on this owl indicates this design is an adaptation of the earlier British concept.

Amazingly none! its smooth as silk except where one seam on back ya feel lil rough, under lid is an original when made obviously but not damage,it had be hot and where sat on rack or something while cooled is "tiny mark tiny tiny indent like maybe "1 mm" id call it original im certain. as its too perfect n smooth, no chipping ! its lovely and hands down the best example of coloring from all the comparisons (same owls) as i was researching imperial and slag glass. if that's still not exact or understood info im happy answer further. but i would'nt bid if ya have prob..i cant see it's negative, but im not sure its a factor in value, let me kno please if is an issue or not. i think it makes it kewl as ya feel little part of process and it has history somehow. its a moment in time ya can decide what means to you. lol i hope that helped. hes is not damaged in any way !!

I see an omprint or stamping w/oval dotted symbol like a victorian or stylized "i" over a hooked tip on letter "c" yes its an "i over c" on stamping on bottom! tho looks like g in way styled, the top od letter "i" wraps under holding "dot" of letter "i" / "i" id like to know the symbolism in the letters like columbus had clffs added to his when he went to america and masonic meaning was implied in such ways. this has that type look to me. lol /??
