The Fist of the North Star animated movie holds a certain level of notoriety for being arguably one of the most violent works of anime ever created. The film finds time to begin with a detailed peek at the Earth as it was before and during the fabled nuclear devastation. Starting with a calm, surreal look at various points of mother nature, a brief on-screen message then informs the audience of the imminent calamity, followed by unsettling scenes of human life consumed in flame.

Meticulous details were incorporated into creating and depicting lifelike and extremely violent deaths. The violence level in the Fist of the North Star movie put its more popular shonen competitors to shame, with only the most violent scenes in both of the other films as the lowest level "par for the course". The movie's tagline is "Believe him when he says You are already dead."
