Hi Laura!

Someone may have put a high bid in of say..2000 credits, it is called a max bid.

People do this for a few different reasons, maybe they only have a certain number of credits so they bid them all, knowing if it goes over that amount, they can no longer bid and do not have to watch the auction everyday anymore.

Or they have to work and cannot monitor the auction, so they put in a max bid so they do not lose it while they have to be away.

By a professional jeweler maybe, but not not more than 1/2 size I would think because you wouldn't want to weaken the band.
