Description
The listing, Grecian Tray has ended.
You are bidding on this Grecian Etruscan design tray which has been reproduced from an original "enamel-on-copper" plate. Dating back to the ancient country of Erturia in Western Italy (Tuscany). Their art was of Egyptian orientation and was widely copied by many succeeding civilizations, particularly the Greek. The simple colors against the rich copper-toned background make for a strikingly handsome tray and reflect the hearty culture of an ancient civilization. Approximately 11 3/4" diameter, 1/2 " deep. There is some rust on the back of the tray. Please see close up photos. Free shipping. Ship only within the US.
1. it was given to me almost 30 years ago, i have had it since 1981 it is a very pretty piece as you can see. and i have never used it. i have been cleaning up my closet and found it packed up. i have had no use for it all these years, so i thought it needs a good home. and thought listia would be a good way of giving to someone who could use or want it.
2. not sure how old it is, as i stated i have had since 1981 not sure how old it is....i have just researched it because of your question and found this: Fabcraft tray. Made in Frenchtown N.J. These trays are reproductions of an original "enamel on copper" plate with the same Grecian Etruscan design. These are circa 1960's. They have a copper colored background and an allover Grecian pattern, including the Greek Key design all around the edges. It a reproduction. Not sure what type of metal it is made of it appears to be copper toned tin......sorry not sure.
I actually use to have the Grecian vase to match this...now it is in Grecian ruins after being dropped on the Gerecian floor during my Grecian move...lol...
Oh wow! My mother had a collection of these trays when I was a kid....back in the 60's - 70's. We always used them as t.v. trays to eat off of in the living room....she probably still has them! What a blast from the past! I can remember snacking off them while watching the Brady Bunch lol!
I just got off the phone with my mom and she told me that these trays were from a collection that was available at Safeway stores. My dad used to work at Safeway and he brought home a collection of them for my mom. They used to be available for purchase if you bought a certain amount of groceries....kinda like the blue chip stamp collections back then. They had a couple different designs.
