LOTS of scammers on Listia, unfortunately ... so try to stick with people who have a good history on LIstia, answer comments/questions relatively quickly, and generally are responsive and paying attention to their listings. Generally, those sellers are reliable.

But yeah, I'm a little picky about whom I fan. I really kind of hate it when people ask or demand that I fanned them (because they fanned me, for example). Not happening!

very sweet,,,I have had my share of "scammers" and it really makes me ill when they bid,,,then say,,,"Oh this wasn't in the "FREE SHIPPING" so I don't want this item!! And I never hear from them again! And,,they try to Dispute and get their credits back!

Yeah, shipping is a big problem on Listia. You almost HAVE to offer free shipping because a lot of the buyers can't send you shipping money (ONLY take paypal, and this keeps away the children and scammers). But the larger problem is that you don't get many bids if you don't offer free shipping.

But I get it, most people can't afford unlimited free shipping. My shipping costs me up to $100 a week, but by selling my charms via paypal I can usually cover that cost (I use paypal to purchase my shipping labels, which offers free delivery confirmation).

Best of luck with both buying and selling! I have a TON of great jewelry findings on LIstia and a few more listings that will start Monday night.

You can click "become a fan" on any member's listing or Listia home page. But Listia limits how many fans you can acquire until other people fan you.

It's a really dumb thing, I think ... kind of meaningless (i.e. produces no benefit at all for either buyer or seller) but when Listia started the "fan" thing, people were pretty much demanding that you fan them (usually because they fanned you), and this irritates the daylights out of me. So, I block people who "demand" that I fan them. I only fan people after I've had a transaction with them.

Just my little 'ol opinion, but you asked for it ... LOL. Good luck with LIstia and have fun! It takes a little time to learn all the ropes, so try not to get discouraged.

Oh, Listia is FULL of scammers and people who simply don't follow through. If they have a bunch of fans, it makes them look good. But honestly, you are right about the "pest" thing ... I just hate it when people say, "I fanned you, now you gotta fan me."

I can tolerate a certain amount of shenanigans on Listia, but this one just boils my beans.

If I'm not in a very good mood, I'll even block people who do that. It's just ridiculous and I figure they don't have the sense to be reliable sellers (and might also be troublesome buyers).

Yes, be VERY careful who you send shipping money to ... I generally don't pay shipping at all, because my own free shipping costs me a small fortune, but I would NEVER send money, only paypal. That way you can get it back. If the person can't take paypal, they are probably a child or someone who can't maintain a bank account.

So, please be careful ... never send cash or a money order. Listia will always refund your credits, but can't return any money you send!

That is one of Listia's Mysteries ... LOL. I have no idea. They just keep adding badges to your account when you earn them, and they come up with new ones on holidays and stuff. As far as I know, you can't find a list of them ... good luck with that!

Be aware of scammers, bad business practice and bad customer service. ask many many questions, none are too silly. be sure to get what you pay for from the seller and nothing less. dont let anyone talk you down from your winnings and ask for refund if there is a sign of trouble!

Preachin' to the choir, my friend. The best way to avoid getting burned is to bid only with reliable sellers. Generally if the seller is a newbie, they are more trustworthy if they have verified with paypal, and answer comments relatively quickly and intelligently.

And NEVER send money for shipping except via paypal ... NEVER. If you don't have a paypal account, set one up. It is extremely safe and the ONLY way you can recover money for shipping sent to a scammer.
