You would need to contact your local Verizon store about that, as I am not sure. I know that they have both prepaid and 'normal' service available for the MiFi 2200 - I will attempt to find out how much it would cost for prepaid service tomorrow.

Fanned back. No, this is not like an iPad - This simply creates a network so that you can use your iPad on the web wherever you want. You can plug it into the wall, into your computer, or run it off it's internal battery, and any WiFi enabled device can connect to the internet through it, up to 5 devices at a time.
