Description

The listing, Shoo-Fly Black Rod seeds 1/4 tsp has ended.

In the first two photos I had to stand in front of flowers to show how blue they really are. These were true blue with black/purple stems. Bush form that grew 3-4 ft high and aprox. 3 ft wide. Said to repel white flies and I have to say that last year (we had a real and very warm constant summer) did not have any problems with white flies and black flies. The black flies I have never seen listed as a repellent but I noticed greatly. In place I stay, there are bog areas in several areas and that normally is a problem with these flies but last year, almost zero flies. Farmers used to grow these around their homes and the horse barns and i assume they still do, just for this reason. But the blue color is true in these pictures. I do not know if it is the soil condition or if they are just pure blue no matter what they grow in which is just plain soil. Does not have to be anything special.

Do you know if they need full sun or can be planted in partial? Since you said they planted it around their homes and barns, I'm hoping you meant on all sides of it : I want to plant them around all windows and doors and see if it helps (and sounds like a beautiful splash of color in the bargain).

The plants I had growing were given mostly full sun, only a couple hours early morning that didn't have sun then late afternoon they were again in the shade and they did very well. I believe it would be safe to say full sun. From the sites I've read this from, they do say full sun to partial sun. Hope this helps.

Thank you Linda, I will be growing more of these myself and placing all around the property. Going to make mass plantings of these for a huge burst of color.
