The delightful way to cook these small plants is to braise them whole when they reach the 4" size, or cut cleanly in half.

Their flavor is more delicate than western cabbage, so don't overwhelm with a lot of soy sauce or other flavoring. They are delicious fried in veg oil, grilled, in soups, stir fries, eaten like celery, etc. Let their natural goodness shine! My favourite is to cook with bacon & mushrooms with a dash of vinegar.

Each plant bears 10-14 erect stalks, 8-10" long. Grows best in cool weather. Can be grown as a spring or fall crop.

Sun: Full Sun
Spread: 12 inches
Height: 18-20 inches
Days to Maturity: 55 days; Days to Harvest: 30-55
Sowing Method: Indoor Sow in Cool Climate Areas
Direct Sow in Warmer Regions
Germination:4 to 7 days, 50F to 80F

While not as sensitive to heat or cold as western cabbage, spring crops may bolt prematurely if young plants are exposed to frost or a week of nighttime temperatures below 50 F. Wait until after last frost date to direct seed or transplant out.

Start transplants inside 4 to 6 weeks before last frost date. Transplant 6 to 12 inches apart in rows 18 to 30 inches apart.

The striking white petioles and green leaves make it a must for edible landscaping. Use it in borders!

FREE Shipping within Contnental US via USPS. I will ship international. Please contact me first before bidding regarding international rates. PayPal only accepted for international shipping charges.

You may want to tend your lettuce, bok choy and cabbage. I grow most of my bok choy outside of the city in a desert community and temperatures are usually 90F+. I use old sheets, netting, screen from patio doors to make an awning over particular plants including bok choy to that it won't bolt quickly or turn bitter.

I usually will get some 4ft dowels or old wood stakes, pound them in the ground then lay the old sheet on top. Plus the covering keeps bugs at bay. Funny how humans and bugs tend to like the same vegetables, huh?

Once you get in the habit of screening your veggies.. it's then no big deal. The trick is to pound stakes into your garden and leave them there and whenever you need to cover your garden.. it's already to go.
