Andrew Blumenthal (Nelson), the idealistic young press secretary for gubernatorial candidate John Eastham, discovers that their opponent Chris Poulas has fabricated every aspect of his background and hidden important and incriminating information about his family. Outraged by the lies, and intent on exposing Poulas, Andrew leaks his information to the press and installs his girlfriend Darcy (Bateman) at Poulas headquarters to work undercover.
