Agree with NormaJeanMeyeres ...... freight too high. Would rather see it going to charity to begin with.

A difference in sizing and price shopping. Retail price for 5" fabric "charm" pack at a quilt store is $20 to $30 for most lines. Sale price is 20% to 50% off retail depending upon your store. Usually there are 35 to 45 squares depending upon fabric line. The current 5" charm squares used to be 6" squares until they were sized down. They also weren't "sold", but provided to retailers by sales people as samples and to be used (after the retailer used them to place an order) as class gifts or "sale specials". Now, they have to be purchased, they are no longer provided as "freebies". So that's the base value of the item. You have 57 squares, 48 6" and nine 5" that should have a current retail sale price value of approximately $12.00. Then, there is the shipping. See below.

I use Paypal as it is a safe, easy and timely way to transfer money between us. If your Paypal account pays my Palpal account there is no cost for that transaction (sending the postage to me).
If you don't have a Paypal account it costs me .30 plus 2.9% of the total transaction. Example: A $1. transaction costs $.33; a $5 transaction costs $.45 approximately - amounts have been rounded.
I use flat rate priority mail that is to be delivered in 2-3 business days and includes delivery confirmation. The pricing for this ranges from $5.60 for a small envelope to $16.85 for a large box. Most of the containers I use to ship have a postage cost of $5.60, $5.80, $5.75 and $5.95. The postage transaction is paid through Paypal and has a transaction cost of $.47 to $.48 per package.
I could ship first class where there is supposed to be automatic tracking but no confirmation number is provided. First class is for 16 oz of less. Fabric is heavy, add packing and soon we are outside of first class ratings. So I seldom use this method.
Listia rules say same postage rates/fees for all. So Flat Rate Priority Mail seems to be the fastest, most secure and least expensive overall.
Hope the above answered all your questions. True, I'm not giving it away AND paying the entire shipping cost. But it is still a good deal if you use these materials or want to use these materials. It's about 40% lower than sales price at your local quilt store.
