Agrostemma Githago - Annual
A lovely annual wildflower. Once a common sight in grain field, but now very scarce due to use of modern herbicides.
The flowers are up to 3.5 cm across, borne singly on long stems. They are bright pink with dark streaks. Corn cockle is very tolerant of a wide range of conditions such as wind and less than perfect soils. It is perfect for a sunny cottage garden and looks dramatic when planted in mass. Ideal flower for continuous summer and fal show of color. They will self sow readily.
Seeds and plant are poisonous if injested.
Attractive to butterflies, bees and moths.
