The signal is wireless. But the monitor plugs into the wall, as does the camera. From different rooms.
There is no other way to maintain that much power.

My apologies, to BarganGal 777: in my description I did use the word record, so I can see how that might be misleading. That was not at all my intention. This is a baby monitor. But it was used as a hidden camera by my family to monitor caretakers in our home when our grandmother was ill, and it was very useful to catch poor care. This is a baby monitor, with night vision, so you can see your baby/ small children when you are not in the same room with them.
