Description

The listing, Make Money Growing Jewelweed has ended.

Jewelweed Seed........My wildcrafter buddy and I pick a LOT of this plant. We were unable to fill all of our orders for it this year. Soap crafters use this to make jewelweed soap that is used for poison ivy relief. It has become a very popular soap. I have known the price of dried jewelweed to go for 45 dollars a pound.
You can make your own soap, its a simple recipe that I am glad to share with winners of my auctions, or you can grow it to sell to soap makers. Better yet, grow it to attract hummingbirds. They will gravitate to this plant above all others when it is blooming.
This plant makes small capsules that "pop" at the least amount of disturbance and will throw their seed a considerable distance. Collecting the seed is a real challange and each pod only has four or more seeds each. These seed were harvested from our personal stash in the Appalachian Mountains grown wild.
Our last order for this plant was for 100 lbs. Commercial soapmakers have a difficult time obtaining it and are begging for it as well as the small time soap crafters.
The Native Americans used this plant fresh to help relieve the stinging, spread and itch from poison ivy, poison nettle, a variety of rashes, insect bites, etc.
A must for every medicine cabinet.
I also have some of our soap made with this up for auction now. Check it out.
The soap is a big seller at flea markets and yard sales and lots of local stores like to keep it stocked. Great to have around for hikers, gardeners, fishermen, utility workers, anyone outside a lot. You can use this fresh also for relief from poison ivy and many other rashes as well.

This plant is a must to have nearby if you like the outdoors. Grow it to use, grow it to sell, grow it to make soap, grow it for the hummingbirds, or grow it for its beauty. Once established it will return every year to reward you for your efforts.

THIS AUCTION IS FOR 30+ difficultly obtained seed. Get it while you can in time for spring planting

You're right, I do need this in my soaps. I make a lot of them, its addicting. Wonder what problems it would cure in shampoo bars. Maybe itchy scalp?

I did have a lady tell me she used it for her itchy scalp and is a regular buyer. Another used it on her dogs belly for a rash

Do you infuse it with Olive oil to make your soap, or just dry it, crush it, and add it at trace?

I boil it down to a strong mix then add to glycerin soap.

Whoa I had no idea dried jewelweed cost that much! My family has a small farm and we are always looking for ways to diversify. I will surely have to look more into this and when I get some more credits order some seeds:)

it is in big demand for soapmakers and not easy to find sellers of the dried product. Jewelweed soap is a staple in most homes around the Southern Appalachians. I've seen bars go for as much as twelve bucks a bar.

this is the easiest soap to make there is. I use glycerin soap which you can buy at a hobby store, simmer my plant then mix the liquid with the melted glycerin, thats all there is to it.

to make the soap and use the old recipe my granny taught me was to use the entire plant. I cut up the stalks, roots, leaves and flowers. Always pick while flowering and after the seed has dispersed.

Fortunately I don't suffer the ill effects of the poison ivy family... However this is an awesome auction that has so much money making potential for anyone that wins... I commend you on your willingness to share this random known secret...

My friend and I are foragers and have spent our lives living off the benefits the Appalachian Mountains have provided to us. We are now even offering classes. Our hobby is getting overwhelming these days.
