"Wave On Wave" was nominated for the 2004 Grammy Award for Best Country Song.

Pat Green is enough of a star in his home state of Texas that WAVE ON WAVE features an appearance by that preeminent local member of country music royalty, Willie Nelson. But Green's still enough in touch with his roots to also employ the earthier talents of Ray Wylie Hubbard, the writer of one of the original outlaw songs, "Up Against the Wall, Redneck Mother."This combination of professionalism and a certain raw edge serves Green well on an album that lifts him out the crowd of run-of-the-mill singer-songwriters and closer to national stardom. He keeps enough of a homegrown feel here on songs such as "Guy Like Me" and "Wrapped" to stay true to his roots, while the hooky title track should gain him plenty of new fans. That the aforementioned Nelson duet (also featuring Ray Benson, Waylon Payne, and Trish Murphy) occurs on "Elvis," a laid-back slice of Presleyana that's almost Ray Stevens-like in its goofiness, is a tribute both to Green's lack of pretension and to his confidence that good songwriting will win out over showbiz glitz every time.
