Gold plating is a method of depositing a thin layer of gold onto the surface of another metal. . Most people do not have any problems with the gold plating it is the metal alloy under the gold plating. If you have allergy to metals this piece could cause a rash or discolor your skin. Unfortunately I do not know the base alloy of this piece. It is advised to take off your jewelry before washing or bathing. Clean it gently with soft cloth or an appropriate jewelry cleaner, this could help to eliminate any dirt or dust and make it last for years.
