NOOOOOOOOO sniglet, I would NEVER own anything that would hurt a pet, it is a shed vac that is made for pets, it won't hurt them, but at first might scare them because of the little motor sound it makes when you turn it on, best thing to do to introduce your pet to it, is to first brush your pet with it for a few days to get him/her used to it without turning it on, once the pet is comfortable with you stroking their fur with it, after a few days, then you can turn it on, and it will vacuum only the loose hairs that cause the pet to shed, and the loose fur will go into the fur compartment on the shed tool so you can just empty it into the trash container afterwards, so it's not flying all over the house. The vacuum sound is not loud, but as with any animal, if you come near them to close with anything new that has any sound at all, they tend to become frightened at first, that's why I say to introduce it to them for a few days first before actually turning it on to use it. I'm really not sure if it's used or not, I was going to use it once, but i turned it on before trying to introduce it to my cat without the sound of the motor first and he got scared, so I never actually used it myself, however I got it from a thrift store and therefore I really don't know if it was ever used prior to me buying it or not. I had it in the box and it looked new, but I noticed yesterday when I seen it, it wasn't in the box anymore and i really don't even know what happened to the box now.
