Description

The listing, GOLD! GOLD! Marked 10K ???FAKE??? - LQQK has ended.

Be it known that it is costing me credits to list this...however I wanted my Listia friends to be aware
( and I'm sure most of you are ) of the fake gold & silver flooding the markets. It is in stores as well as on line. A number of years ago I bought a few rings from China, marked 10K & 14K gold. My loss, they were fake! A sad lesson learned! Pretty...yes. Real gold...No. :(

**Last photo NOT for bid! Clearly I'm not thinking spring hard enough...at least 1&1/2ft. and still falling!

Beautiful ring! Sorry for your loss of money though. It's terrible how some of the world is! My grandmother is 81 & she's been dealing with scammers for the passed 2 weeks. Anyways! Watching close & fanned :)

Unfortunately there are alot of scams directed toward retired / elderly people...so sad :( I put this ring up to show people to be careful...not really to be bid on. I figured that if I used it to show marked, fake gold & listed it for only 499 credits someone might bid on it & try to sell it as real! Have a great weekend! FB. =(^.^)=

Is this marked 10kt or is it plated?

It IS marked 10K, I listed this to show that you can't always go by the marking! This ring is a fake, not even sure the plating is gold & the stones are probably glass. I purchased a few from China a few years ago; they were supposed to be real gold ...they were not.

Very pretty ring. Is the stones fake as well? It it gold over sterling silver? Does it turn your finger green when wearing it? Sorry for all the questions, but it is nice. =)

No problem...I suspect the stones are glass, I don't know what is under the finish..there is no other markings (no 925 marking). Never wore one... they are / were all size 8. I would & might later relist this & others for a starting bid of 499 with this warning that they are marked 10K but are not. I have seen these ( and other styles that I bought at the same time) for same selling as real gold. I told one woman and she never took them from her display :(
I did not list this to auction it but really to share with others who are bidding, or people auctioning these and really unaware that they are fake.

TY... Also have exact same style that 'looks like' garnet, and swapped one the exact same style that 'looked like' sapphire on another swap site that is now closed (swapped as costume jewelry for a top or something worth probably about $10.00 or less). And have seen 2 or 3 the exact same style on this site. All of mine were falsely marked 10K! :O

Thanks, PBJ, for the comparison. I recently had the experience of buying a ring on here thinking it was sterling silver but it actually turned out to be 14K white gold. I immediately contacted the seller but she said she was okay about it and didn't want it back. Your ring is beautiful, even though it isn't real gold or gems. And as you can see by the comments, it certainly isn't worthless . . . its real beauty is in the perception of each individual. Your honesty and willingness to educate us is refreshing!!! By the way . . . I LOVE that vintage ring you have listed! I'm going to have to think on that one!

F&W. This is a stunning ring even if it isn't real. I can see how you would think it was real. Can you pick it up with a magnet? Do you have a gemstone tester? I bought one and a gold tester so I know what I am getting and selling with peace of mind.

Great idea. I've got this HUGE magnet here, I could probably pick up a car LOL...doesn't stick. But I'm sure alot of things wouldn't ;)

I heard that copper n nickel don't stick to magnets??
Mar 29th, 2013 at 12:52:59 AM PDT by
Original
That could be true. I know that magnet trick works for gold & silver but there are also other metals that don't stick to magnets either. Guess what? Based on what you just said I just went and got a penny & my super-duper magnet...the penny wasn't attracted at all! The magnet trick is probably right 50% off the time??? :)
