I know nothing about xbox this was my sons purchased at best buy many years ago it works he does not use it he uses ones that dont have the cord and have batteries

Can you post a pic of this controller with the cable plugged into both the controller and the Xbox so we can see that the light on the controller end of the cable is lit up?That would confirm that what you actually have is a wireless controller with a rechargeable battery pack and a charge cable. F&w
