-

These fruits are commonly known as "dragon fruit".

The vine-like epiphytic pitahaya-producing cacti of the genus Hylocereus are native to Mexico, Central America, and South America.

Hylocereus blooms only at night; the large white fragrant flowers of the typical cactus flower shape are among those called "moonflower" or "Queen of the Night". Sweet pitahayas have a creamy pulp and a delicate aroma. It is also grown as an Ornamental plant, used in gardens as a flowering vine and a house plant indoors.

After thorough cleaning of the seeds from the pulp of the fruit, the seeds may be stored when dried. Ideally, the fruit must be unblemished and overripe. Seeds grow well in a compost or potting soil mix - even as a potted indoor plant. Pitahaya cacti usually germinate between 11 and 14 days after shallow planting. As they are cacti, overwatering is a concern for home growers. As their growth continues, these climbing plants will find something to climb on, which can involve putting aerial roots down from the branches in addition to the basal roots.

Hylocereus has adapted to live in dry tropical climates with a moderate amount of rain. The dragon fruit sets on the cactus-like trees 30–50 days after flowering and can sometimes have 5-6 cycles of harvests per year. There are some farms in Vietnam that produce 30 tons of fruit per hectare every year.

Do you ever GIN your seeds?

I haven't, yet, because I need them to run longer to have enough time to earn certain badges =)

(Fanned you)

...Plus, I don't like letting Listia take a percentage from a GIN when I don't have to lose that in an auction.

The seeds in this auction are NOT collected from store bought fruit. There is no way to know the growth habits of seeds harvested from unknown fruit.

These seeds are professionally extracted and thoroughly cleaned by growers who have been farming multiple varieties for several generations.

I have been sourcing seeds from this supplier for years.

This batch was acquired less than 6 months ago.

They are still very fresh & viable.

(I guarantee viable seeds)

Around how many days does it take from germination to fruiting ?

There are too many variables to say... It's not like certain fruit/berry tree's... Were talking months, not 3-4 years... But ultimately, that depends on the conditions they're grown in. The amount of love & sunlight and quality of the soil, water & air will determine how quickly the cacti will grow and how many fruit they will produce.

then take your attitude somewhere else... no need to comment if all your saying is "I don't want this".

...and to be insulting and say "this isn't even worth a watch" is just an unnecessary nasty attitude... I am NOT asking for watchers on this auction.

This was put up BY REQUEST because people thought 25+ was too many seeds.

They ASKED for a 5 seed auction.

and I could care less how many your willing to bid on, because your comment is getting you blocked from all my auctions.

If you don't have anything nice to say, don't bother commenting.

you can cut pieces of this cacti off & clone it by simply planting the cutting upright with at least 2 inches of it in soil. The clones will grow more quickly and produce fruit earlier than new generations from seed... So even 1 plant in a short period of time can multiply into several... The potential is limitless. You can produce as much or as little as you desire... and YES, even MORE seeds will be added for high bidders.

I use Miracle-Gro Organic Gardening Soil and I sprinkle the seeds on top of the soil & mist it with a water bottle to keep the top layer moist til they sprout (in partial light... light filtered/shaded sunlight, somewhat indirect but still bright for a few hours a day.)... sometimes they take a while, and many pop out at different times, sometimes days apart, even though they're all sown the same day.

Once they sprout and grow beyond their "regular leaf" stage, they will look normal (but tiny)... this is when I move them, spread them out for future growth or move them to individual pots (because they will get BIG & FAST)... shortly after that I will put a stake in for them to grow on and trim them as needed to maintain a small-medium sized plant (This does not affect fruit size).

Self-pollinating w/ minimal thorn growth compared to all other varieties. Many of the other types have longer, thicker, more prominent thorns but these are small and easy to snap off if you want to kid-proof them for safety.
