nicolinaprice7. a Harness is not the best for a Dog who pulls. a Harness Is used On sled's to pull its design is for best suited for escape artist dogs who can sneak out of a collar. For a dog who pulls on you You should Get a choke collar. there are soft cloth ones.. dose nto have to be a metal one. Place it At the Top of the neck. Google Show dogs & See how it should be put. This is the best spot and for best control. Have dog set to your Hip. if he pulls Pull to the side To your hip. and reset him to the right spot. it takes time ^_^ Hope this helps :)
Kanein: That is EXTREMELY incorrect. Sled dogs use harnesses especially made to put pressure on their chests and backs so that they are able to pull. A dog that pulls needs a harness and TRAINING. Regular collars on dogs that pull can can Tracheal Collapse. They put pressure on the throat which can damage the thyroid which controls everything else in the dog's body. Choke collars are even more dangerous because they don't stop tightening. They won't teach a dog anything. They will only harm the dog. Dogs shown in conformation wear THIN, DELICATE leads at the nape of their neck because it doesn't hide the neck when being judged.
sorry we call them choke colars but they are called Slip collar for you guys ^_^. put on correctly release once the pressure is gone. And i said google show dogs because of the High placement of the collars they use. thats the best spot & pressure point for them to have complete control over a dog. I spent 10 years in training and went to school on it. Harnesses kind of encourage the pulling behavior.. The harness can be a great tool if you want your dog to pull you. For example, if you want your dog to pull you around while you ride your bike or use rollerblades There are gentle collars for dogs who have throat problems or sensitive necks. If you place the collar on the lower part of the neck, you are actually helping your dog to pull you around. The Illusion Collar or Slip collar are good to look into.
Every sled dog or pulling dog i ever seen was in a harness. I have had a dog break his neck in a choker as well as a metal buckle collar! You said "Google It"..lol.. that reminds me of that commercial where the girl is outside talking to her neighbor and she says " the internet said so and they cant put anything on the internet that isnt true". The neighbor says :oh yeah, where'd u hear that " and she said "The internet.. heehee
Thanks for all the information from all of you I have used choke collars and have had them lock on me so I 'm not really into doing that and i did the high up on the neck which did work for a little whild but he is a smart dog and learned if he goes up on his back legs he can pull better I'm going to try the harness for now if I get it because he does pull but if I correct him and stop walking for a minute he will stop after awhile it is just when he is very excited that he pulls hard He is the Husky pictured and I just got him last may and he was2 1/2 with no training
nicolinaprice7 you probably need a xl harness because it based on body size. My American Pit Bull Terrier wears a large and it's at the largest it can go and it's still a little tight.
I wasn't trying to make the first comment towards you. I was trying to tell the bidder that it may not fit her husky. Calm down, no need to get offended.
sorry if my question has caused you problems I know everyone has different opinions on different collars and harnesses I have trained a lot of dogs and my last 3 were huskies so I know how they pull and have used all my normal routens but this one was 2 1/2 whan I got him and had no training at all so he is a little stubborn so I was hopeing to get this and try it If you have a idea on pulling and would like to share it i'm more then happy to take suggestions but lets all please keep it friendly Thanks
