Description

The listing, 2010 P Lincoln Union Shield Cent - Have b4 US Mint Release Date! has ended.

This is straight from a bank roll. It is the new design for 2010. The U.S. Mint ceremony to release the new cents isn't until 2/13/2010...so you can have one of these before they're officially released. This is the Lincoln Union Shield Cent. I only handled with cotton gloves. But just like 2009, there seems to be spots on the surface, and there are light scuffs from the coin rolling machine. I'm sure the uncirculated cents from the Mint will not have this, as these were meant for circulation. These look WAY better in hand. I didn't like the design at first, but once I had it in hand I'm betting these will be a classic design. Especially when the U.S. stops using cents in our monetary system. These have the P mint mark. As always, I ship for free to the U.S. only.

lol i have a "cheat sheet chart" that gives me avg weights and values of every coin since like 1800. then the back has the melt values and contents for each coin. they only care if it is lower than originally and if the #'s are off. So i usually just add 2 Jfk's and a quarter for silver dollars. i also have a pocket scale i got off eBay if needed. =]
the only thing i can never get real time to do is look for war nickels. way to time consuming and i rarely found them anyway. I take silver dimes quarters, halfs, and dollars. one time i found an Indian cent , but that's very rare. sure i could find thousands of dollars more , but i take what i can get =] i got a good thing going. I sell bags of those coins to dealers.

we are the last stop on the route and he is a private servicer.
doesn't directly work for coin star
idk one day i was just talking to him about all the rare coins people dump in these stupid things and he was like you can sort through it real fast if you want. i get like 10 minutes max don't wanta keep him all day but i usually find some nice stuff.
i found a few Au silver walkers one time.
you gotta understand when i find expensive coins he makes 50%. problem is the coins have to weigh the exact same as when i found them. so i have to have coins on hand to replace them. very difficult some times. my best find was from an old man who dumped about 300 $ in change in. I found 4 morgan silver dollars............... all of them were bad dates but 1 was in great condition and a good mint. I got that coin graded. somewhere in my room rofl... i get them slabbed so i don't have to take care of my coins.. lol they are all over the attic/house/room.

Oh that is a sweet arrangement. However, I get the visual of Indiana Jones in Raiders of the Lost Ark, trying to gauge the EXACT weight of the golden idol with a bag of sand in a burlap sack...trying to evade certain death if he misjudges. Except you with a handful of loose change in one hand and 4 morgans in the other ;-)

i made friends with the coin star guys =] that works better than 100 banks i go through all of their coins and pay 2-5 times face value for any coin i want =p not bad 1$ for a silver half worth 2.5$ in silver
my best finds were 20 silvers (halfs) in a crate of 500lbs
fact is coin star is a business and if you get in good with the guy who picks up the coins and aslong as the case weighs the exact same as when he picked it up and he makes some quick bucks they don't care =p

I would like to know more about the 'box'. Do I go into the bank and say I'd like to buy a box of coins, or what? What is the average cost, then, of a box of coins? Tell me more, Kevin.
Feb 8th, 2010 at 11:47:05 AM PST by
Original
yes, you can go into your bank and ask for a box of cents. A box of cents is 50 rolls and costs face value which is $25. It would be best to order boxes of cents from the bank manager/supervisor, because if you just go in and ask, they might not have one on hand or if they do, they may need it to make change. I guess it is viewwed as kinda rude...like showing up to a friends house unannounced. Most banks that I've been to get bent if they know you're just cherrypicking from these boxes because banks aren't coin shops or hobby stores and get irritated when treated as such. So I usually just ask for box and don't offer an explanation as to why I need it. While others have formed successful relationships with the bank by explaining exactly what they're doing...as long as you're not using them as your dump station ;-)

Looks nice, I would have liked the eagle with the olive branches and arrows better though. Thanks for the links.

Maybe they figured we have enough Eagles on our coinage? The one I wished would've won, was in the top 18...the Union Shield with pen and sword (LP-12)...it symboizes how America's foundation was built...( http://2010lincolncents.com/2010-lincoln-cent-design-proposals/ )

They narrowed it down to 4 designs ( http://2010lincolncents.com/ ) and this one won. I was hoping the eagle design would've won, but this was my second choice out of the 4

I wish Listia allowed the lister to choose the duration an auction ran...right now the shortest run time available is 3 days; it should allow for 1 day auctions...as most activity seems to occur within the final day.

I was able to go all three release dates ata the cerimony but not the fourth in washington D.C. chump4change. I have all of them and got this one with the pure copper mint set. Whats awesome is when I went to the release in springfield I was able to get the designer of the third release to sign 50 rolls for me. He was at the post office when I was getting my rolls stamped and canceled. Wow the post office was closing when he walked in and as I was leaving.. I sold most of them but I still have like 15 rolls from the third release signed and canceled at the post office the first day of the release.... I may put a roll up on here.?

I put a bid in for you to get it going.. Hope someone out bids me...lol

That is AWESOME! It sounds like you have quite the Lincoln collection. The autographed rolls is amazing...I'd hold onto those as they will be highly collectible and truly rare items. How generous to give one of them away. I'm currently watching your ancient...what a wonderful item! You'll be rich in Listia points when the dust settles on that one :-)

This coin is going to be released very soon and you will be able to get it everywere.. I have all four release dates in capsules and sealed.. By the roll of fifty coins.. I have a roll of fifty of these graded and a bunch of loose ones.

Hope you do well chump4change. But this will soon be a common coin as it is the last design that will be released of the penny for the next 20 years or untill they just do away will the penny all together. Hope this helps...

I have all of the designs Keven667... Graded rolls and slabbed.

Oh yeah, this is definitely not rare. Or at least not right now. Like you say, until the the U.S. stops using cents in our monetary system...then every last cent will be hoarded by collectors. The 2010 will be similar to the 1909 when cents go away, and since it is the first year of the final design, I'm predicting 2010 to be sought after by collectors.

I ship coins in coin flips, sealed with tape, not staples via first class mail in a standard paper envelope.

Yeah, the reverse changed to 4 different designs in 2009 to commemorate Lincoln...and the Union Shield design for 2010 will permanently replace the Memorial reverse.
