Hello! Are you sure this remote will work on any other HP laptop, other than yours? laptop has to have such options first of all and be compatible with a remote. Good auction, best of luck

Works with any HP laptop that is remote/ DVD capable. This one also has a black background and silver arrow keys unlike the picture.

Yeah, it's great to have remote control for a Laptop , sadly I have Toshiba Satellite which is not compatible with remotes

this might be a dumb question but does it have a chip that plugs into the port like the wireless mouses do or something.

Not a dumb question! Sorry but no. It doesn't have a plug in or USB adaptor. It connects directly to the computer's infared port. If you don't have an infared port, some places still sell them, I believe, but I can't guarantee that it will work.

Will this work w/ the HP Pavillion 16 in laptop that has the thumb security and blueray and tv tuner?

It should. The drivers should be the same. You may have to disable the security "sleep" setting for when you use the remote, but it should work fine. It does take a battery. There is one inside of the remote but I have no way to test if it is charged currently. I hope this helps!
