Description

The listing, ~*~*HIPPIE ROCK~*~*ABALONE~*~* has ended.

This HIPPIE ROCK is from People's Park here in Berkeley, Ca. and is made from ABALONE shell. The Ohlone Tribal people's (East Bay, Ca.) wore abalone shell as jewelry and ornaments. This would look great wrapped and worn as a pendant too, and was "cleansed" with White Sage by a Native American elder from the Blackfeet Tribe (Montana), my friend Running Wolf. I had to add a shipping charge too so please send me a $3.00 M.O.--I tried free shipping before but it was getting to be too expensive for me. AHO! Thank you and happy bidding.(will update with additional pix of actual abalone shell too)

"aaargh! it won't let me update! --so here goes---(A battle between the U. of California in Berkeley, Ca. and the HIPPIE and student community!) between 1956 and 1960, a lot of nicer homes were being torn down to make way for ugly "shoebox" apartments in the neighborhoods near the campus--and an empty lot was slated for student housing development---but the HIPPIES and students planted trees and flowers there and made it into a park (People's Park!) needless to say, our former Gov. Ronnie Reagan ordered the National Guard to take back the park from the "occupiers" as they were now known as, because the University and a former Mayor of Berkeley had shut down the park without notice after they had promised to give notice first. Hence, on May 15, 1969 300 cops came and one sheriff actually fired birdshot (the shot heard 'round the park! LOL) at people. One person was blinded in both eyes, others were hit elsewhere, and James Rector, who was on a rooftop with others, later died from being shot. Later, 3 thousand people who had gathered for a memorial for Rector, were pepper sprayed by helicopters. Forty some years later it is still People's Park! I hope this helps as I've gotten some of this info. from the book "It Came from Berkeley---How Berkeley Changed The World"--by Dave Weinstein" although I have changed some of the wording around somewhat. Thank you for asking and I hope this explanation helps!
