Questions & Comments
Pardon me for butting in, msuggs, but the value isn't so much the thread, as in the collectors spools and thimbles. The thread would be perfect for repairing vintage items tho. I predict this neat auction will bring a bunch of credits! :-)
I bought a lot of vintage sewing supplies at an estate sale recently and I have kept some stuff sold some stuff and have some listed here. I have a lot of vintage thread like this listed and I put in my listing it may be useable but I list it more for the collectible value. A lot of people use vintage sewing stuff as well as other stuff as decor items. Then others like me who eat sleep and breathe vintage do everything with items we find. Good luck on your auction. It's nice to we everyone making such positive comments. Restores my faith in humanity too.
Yes in deed. It is a good thing. I am glad you see and feel that way. We tend to notice the bad first. I believe we must be the change we want to see. Thank you for sharing with me & others. Good Luck with you auction.
i dont know anything about thread collection or spool collecting, i was asking not to be rude but some sewing machines runs hard and the threads could be yanked apart especially if they are weak. I thought it would be thoughtful to include that information on the strength of the threads. Yes, i hope this auction does bring alot of credits.
I never thought you were rude at all. I posted this as a collectors item rather then something old and for someone to use. I hope someone does not bid hinking the thread is good and useable because I don't know how great ther thread is. I appreciate you asking and it raised a question or two and maybe helped someone else out there bidding. thanks for stopping by and keep asking those questions.
well here's my two cents--I do antique clothing restoration and it is very important to use original cotton or rayon threads in restoration. That being said if you use the older silk threads they might break very easily because silk thread tends to deteriorate a lot faster for some reason, at least that has been my experience. The cotton is usually stronger. So let's say you want to sew a really beautiful glass or carved mother of pearl button on a dress or blouse---you don't want to lose that button! so you want a strong thread. In my humble opinion it wouldn't hurt to test the threads, and I do know that there are collectors who just want the spools too. Bty-- I used to have a very old "Coats & Clark thread cabinet with multiple drawers for spools of thread--just like the kind you see in old timey pictures of stores. Loved it --it was made of oak and I used to have baskets of old thread and buttons too. Love to see auctions like this.
Yep these would go great with my 97 year old Singer model 66 machine I just won on Ebay a few weeks ago. I have a flag and banner ministry in the church and I am constantly sewing. But these would most likely be for display rather than use. I dont know if the thread would stand up to the abuse a flag gets after so many awesome praise and worship services in church and at convention centers. lol. So watching this.
Great auction! I have 20 old spools with interesting tops lying on their sides in a plastic see through drawer. I put a pc of cardboard behind them to hold them up to the front, and behind the cardboard I store my newer threads. I never take the thread off the old spools and sometimes I have used them with great results. F&W
I'm new to Listia; that having been said, I am simply browsing right now, and it's listings such as this one that make me feel confident about Listia as a whole as well as its users. I love seeing that this isn't just some (excuse my language) ***** site/app where people put random things they don't want anymore, and then that's the end of it. i love how much thought you put into this listing, and i love the commentd attached with it - they give me faith in humanity. Fanned and watching, although i don't think i'll make a move on it just yet! :)
Love these auctions! I actually have a box nearly full of old spools and yes, I do use the thread, lol! Once empty, after reading all your posts, I probably should auction the wooden spools!
Great Auction!! Watching to Bid.!!!! Please FAN me I have reached my limit thanks!

Oh my goodness! This is a wonderful auction. I started sewing when I was 7 years old and have not stopped. That is more years than I care to share, anyway I have found through teaching young women to sew that there are tons of things about the art that we more mature ladies take for granted and it is understandable for those who dont have the experience to ask lots of questions. You go girl, ask, ask ask. And for you Miabbl, you have an exceptional way of expressing yourself and I believe a very good and kind nature, thank you for being such a good example to others. Btw, watching and friending. Would love to have these items, I love to repair vintage items and collect anything to do with sewing.(could border on hoarding) lol
hoardering:That is a sensitive subject in my house: My hubby is always asking when will our house become normal again..lol I am always creating something..I never took to sewing..Thank goodness..I can not imagine how I would carry on in the fabric department. Thankk you for stopping by and thank you for your positive words.
Have been watching and reading this with interest and have been glad to see the input of some of the people I have dealt with and follow. These spools and thread and thimbles are indeed collectibles and will be useful in clothing restoration for those who deal with that. I have used older cotton thread when it has tested strong and not had a problem. Good luck on your auction. F&W!!!
