These cables can be repaired, don't let people fool you. I have repaired several. You can splice them together and make sure you use a water tight silicone. I agree that the company will tell you that, that is how cmpanies make money.

I called Humminbird & the cable cannot be spliced. New 20ft. cable with transducer is $79 + shipping!

I wont say it can or can't be spliced, and I wouldnt just go by what Hummingbird says, its in their interest for you to buy a new one isnt it? I was thinking a solder splice would work or have an electronics guy splice it back together, I dont see why that wouldnt work, I dont have a solder gun and the time to mess with it.
