The mint mark, in this case the "D", would be located on the reverse side of the coin and right next to or after the word "one" at the bottom and it is not there. You are correct though in saying it is not because of "wear", because of the nice condition. It is a 1939 (p) Mercury/Liberty dime...minted in Philadelphia, and at that time they did not put the "P" on their coins. I have the ability to magnify the photo 500x the size of the picture, and am positive the mint mark is absent. It is still a very nice coin! However, if possible, I would try to "edit" it and just make it a 1939 mercury dime. If you can not edit it because there is not enough time left before the auction ends, I would just add a comment stating that it is a 1939 and not a 1939d...I am just trying to prevent you from being hasselled by anyone and protect yourself. I am watching and hopefully bidding. Best of luck. Again, I am just trying to help...but you can leave the auction as is if you choose.

Very nice looking coin. Only question I have is says that it is a 1939 D Mercury Dime, but on the reverse side there is no Mint mark...therefore making it a 1939 (p) dime. So is it a 1939 d w/ the wrong picture of the reverse side? Or is it a 1939 Mercury/Liberty dime? Thanks and I will be watching very close and hopefully bidding.

I cant really see it (even with my corrective lenses) even under magnification. I do not have a jewelers loop to make sure so I had my daughter (19 yrs old) look at it she says it looks like a D to her. Its the only one I have so I couldnt mix the pictures up......It might be because it is tarnished or because I just cant see. I know it is not due to wear because it is in very good shape. It is very possible it could be a p. I cannot say for sure.

Since I am unable to edit the auction due to time frame please accept my apologies. This is a 1939 Mercury Dime. It does not have a "d' or "p". Please see sixsixx comments which are very informative for further information

You are very welcome. I just did not want someone to try and use that against you in someway and take advantage of the situation. Unfortunately, I have seen it before...but for the most part, the majority of people on Listia are honest, good people (as far as my experience goes...which is over 2 yrs.) and Listia also does a nice job when it comes to handling a "problematic" person or situation. Anyway, thanks for your kind words & best of luck with your auction and all future auctions. Also, I have fanned you and will be keeping a close eye on this auction as well as your future auctions.
