Description

The listing, (Last Chance!) 25+ Seeds, Dragon Fruit Cactus with Exotic Flowers (Easy Grow) Hylocereus Pitaya has ended.

These are the last of this batch... I added a GIN on these last auctions.

After these auctions you will have to try your luck with the other sellers on Listia... (Make sure you ask if they are "Self-Pollinating" & what color fruit they are)

Winning bidder will receive at least 25 Dragon Fruit/Pitaya/Hylocereus seeds (or more).

Extra seeds will be included for high bidders.

These are a very fast growing, self-pollinating red fruit variety. Great tasting for deserts, smoothies & more.

-

These fruits are commonly known as "dragon fruit".

The vine-like epiphytic pitahaya-producing cacti of the genus Hylocereus are native to Mexico, Central America, and South America.

Hylocereus blooms only at night; the large white fragrant flowers of the typical cactus flower shape are among those called "moonflower" or "Queen of the Night". Sweet pitahayas have a creamy pulp and a delicate aroma. It is also grown as an Ornamental plant, used in gardens as a flowering vine and a house plant indoors.

After thorough cleaning of the seeds from the pulp of the fruit, the seeds may be stored when dried. Ideally, the fruit must be unblemished and overripe. Seeds grow well in a compost or potting soil mix - even as a potted indoor plant. Pitahaya cacti usually germinate between 11 and 14 days after shallow planting. As they are cacti, overwatering is a concern for home growers. As their growth continues, these climbing plants will find something to climb on, which can involve putting aerial roots down from the branches in addition to the basal roots.

Hylocereus has adapted to live in dry tropical climates with a moderate amount of rain. The dragon fruit sets on the cactus-like trees 30–50 days after flowering and can sometimes have 5-6 cycles of harvests per year. There are some farms in Vietnam that produce 30 tons of fruit per hectare every year.

(Blocked you for multiple insults. Don't attack people just because they're selling the same thing as you... and calling me out by name to bad talk me in your auctions is immature and pathetic)

These stock pics show various growth stages and fruit from several varieties, to show what the winner can expect while growing. I've been growing them for several years but I am a gardener, not a photographer, so I don't have pics as good as these. I've been getting them from the same seed supplier and I have sprouted and grown dozens of the seeds from this batch over the past half a year or so. I HAVE NEVER CLAIMED THESE WERE MY PHOTOS AND EVERYONE WHO HAS GOT MY SEEDS LEFT 100% POSITIVE FEEDBACK.

You picked your seeds out of your front yard and you admit that... and you then say that those RANDOM seeds from a RANDOM plant growing in RANDOM soil conditions, with completely unknown genetics and growth habits... Is somehow better than my seeds, that are from a professional dragon fruit farm that has been cultivating top producing plants under optimal growing conditions for several generations... Yeah... I sincerely hope that anyone reading this can make that decision for themselves.

I won't tell you whose to buy... but if you like hostility, spitefulness and edible fruit producing seeds from someone's "yard", then you'll have to get them from someone other than me because I refuse to treat people that way.

Listia deleted the 2 auctions that guy was offering (because of his foul language and blatant disrespect) but he now has a new one up and it is a tiered auction.

I really am not biased. You can buy from whoever you feel inclined to do business with.

That other guy has seeds for white flesh dragon fruit (and cuttings for red fruit) and he is also selling started/sprouted seeds... Which I would worry might go into shock during shipping, but I have never done it, so it is very possible that they will survive just fine.

No way to know unless you buy! =)

The choice is yours!

This many cacti will produce a large amount of fruit. Enough for you to keep what you can eat & sell the rest... Which will produce enough seeds for you to harvest, keep what you need to grow more cacti & sell the rest... Then consider that you can cut pieces of this cacti off & clone it by simply planting the cutting upright with at least 2 inches of it in soil. The clones will grow more quickly and produce fruit earlier than new generations from seed... So even 1 plant in a short period of time can multiply into several... The potential is limitless. You can produce as much or as little as you desire... and YES, even MORE seeds will be added for high bidders.

I use Miracle-Gro Organic Gardening Soil and I sprinkle the seeds on top of the soil & mist it with a water bottle to keep the top layer moist til they sprout (in partial light... light filtered/shaded sunlight, somewhat indirect but still bright for a few hours a day.)... sometimes they take a while, and many pop out at different times, sometimes days apart, even though they're all sown the same day.

Once they sprout and grow beyond their "regular leaf" stage, they will look normal (but tiny)... this is when I move them, spread them out for future growth or move them to individual pots (because they will get BIG & FAST)... shortly after that I will put a stake in for them to grow on and trim them as needed to maintain a small-medium sized plant (This does not affect fruit size).

Self-pollinating w/ minimal thorn growth compared to all other varieties. Many of the other types have longer, thicker, more prominent thorns but these are small and easy to snap off if you want to kid-proof them for safety.
