ok....idk what the stone or granite or marble etc.is but these things weigh a ton (well... not l i t e r a l l y haha) they are very CQQL looking though. the sticker on bottom reads they were made in mexico; that's all i know bout them... oooh and these were my grams, found in attic w/box of her stuff.
maybe someone else can share their knowledge if you recognize the stone or something..??
Questions & Comments
These are really neat!! :-) Fanned, watching and bidding!!!
They appear to be lace agate. Most of the time, the lines through this stone look curly or frilly-looking; but, can be straight across like these. Depends on how the stone is cut.
YAY! i knew someone on this site would know. thank you. i'm totally amazed by what i learn from people's knowledge about different things on this site. so is lace agate like marble or granite or???
Went to favbuy.com; saw horsehead bookends of this same rock; it is a rare tan onyx; bookends sell for $425 dollars by a professional interior designer, Brittany Stiles, from L.A, California; TAN ONYX!! WORTH ALOT OF MONEY. IF I DID NOT HAVE ALL MY CREDITS ON TABLET, I WOULD BID. http://www.favbuy.com/product/uyicryaj-Onyx_Horse_Bookends https://www.onekingslane.com/product/18752/1269532
http://armenstone.com/pages/onyx.htm-0 Onyx Onyx, from an Assyrian word meaning ring, is a cryptocrystalline form of quartz. The colors of its bands range from white to almost every color. Commonly available onyx slabs and tiles in the market contain bands of colors of white, tan, and brown.
I'm not arguing. I never claimed to be a professional petrologist. Yes, these lace agate book ends are very valuable. I've also seen the horse heads before; and they are made of the same kind of rock: lace agate.
i'm presuming a petrologist is the study of rocks? haha that's a silly name for it; petrologist should be the study of pets n a person who studies rocks should be a rockologist... why can't it be kept simpl?? lol
LOL, yes, petrology is the study of rocks. Petrologist is just a fancy word for rockhound. LOL again, the study of pets is a veterinarian, or their assistant. =DDD Have a great day. -EJ =D
Sry, forgot to tell you, no, lace agate is a 'gneiss-er' stone than granite; would probably have about the same kind of value that professionally cut marble would have. (That word, gneiss, is pronounced 'nice' and is a better form of granite. LOL =D )
