Description

The listing, Ylang Ylang Tree Seeds has ended.

5 Seeds of Cananga odorata, commonly called ylang-ylang. The flowers of this tree are an aphrodisiac and the prime scent in the timeless perfume, Chanel #5. I live in zone 9b and harvested these seeds from my own tree, which is about 25 feet tall.
C. odorata is a fast-growing tree of the custard-apple family, Annonaceae; its growth exceeds 5 m (15 ft) per year[citation needed] and attains an average height of 12 m (40 ft). It grows in full or partial sun, and prefers the acidic soils of its native rainforest habitat.

I'm thinking in Zone 5 these can be a houseplant......and put outside in the summer?
Would that keep the growth rate slower? fanned and watching!

Ylang Ylang's are quite large trees, however, by trimming and topping them regularly you can change them into a pseudo-dwarf, kind of like a bonsai. The only issue is humidity & rainfall. In the bay area here in Florida, it's pretty subtropical, so humidity is rampant along with heavy rains. I would sprout in a greenhouse and once it reaches about 5 inches tall, put into a pot in a sunny sheltered place on the porch, since they grow so fast, make sure you trim on regular basis to prevent from it shooting up, however, WAIT UNTIL THE PLANT IS ESTABLISHED before doing ANY pruning, as every time you cut a plant you are actually causing a wound, and young saplings are like young kids, they are underdeveloped and less disease resistant. As I said, keeping in a humid greenhouse or home during winter would be effective & once temps get to 70
's with lows only in the 40's (but no less) you can put it outside. The ONLY way to slow growth rate, is to trim, trim, trim, & you're not even slowing the growth rate, you're just moulding it into what you want the plant to look like. Happy bidding, and FYI, the flowers of these trees are SO good smelling. I have my tree outside my balcony & when they're in bloom it smells like Chanel #5 every time I go out my front door. Hope you enjoy! I will have more, so even if you do not win this auction, I will have more, & keep looking for more auctions..I have over a 1/4 of an acre of rare fruit & nut plants, flowers, etc...I am a seed saver member, so, within the next couple weeks keep an eye out for more exotic seeds & I'll try to put some stuff on there that can survive in a more temperate climate! Thanks for the F&W! Have a good afternoon!
