The listing, Advertizing Memorabilia: BIG "Y" Certificates, 1970s-80s has ended.
These are 2 Savings Certificates from the 1970s-80s from the "Big Y Supermarkets" of Connecticut and Massachusetts.
The D'Amour brothers began their "Y Cash Market" on December 12, 1936 in Chicopee, MA and has gradually expanded into Big Y Foods, Inc., one of the largest independently-owned supermarket chains in New England, employing over 8,500 people.
The Big Y paper certificate program has been replaced today with special silver and gold coins redeemable for discounts that change bi-monthly and its program of "buy one, get two free" sales.
These certificates were quite valuable to shoppers in their day, and so, were mostly redeemed, rather than saved, to help defray the cost of living.
I suspect that very few of these remain in existence.
