It was used after hair was washed, hair was taken into small sections, and a product called "Dippity Doo" was smoothed on the hair, then the hair was twisted and spiraled close to the scalp and bobbypins was added in a criss-cross way... when all hair was done, this kind of cover was put over it to help hold the bobbypins and hair in place...in the morning when taken out you had very curly hair...lol
