Description

The listing, Antique Victorian Bar Pin ~ Rose Gold ~ has ended.

As an Antique Dealer, I have such a weakness for these bar pins. It's not uncommon for me to wear several at one time down the side lapel of a denim jacket...a case of blending the old with the new.

This one is not in perfect condition because one of the little decorative disks on the left side is missing. However, it does nothing to detract from the integrity and beauty of the pin, which is from the VICTORIAN ERA and has been around now for well over one hundred years! The front of the pin is faced with GENUINE ROSE GOLD. Rose Gold is so said from its color, which is produced from combining real gold and copper, producing a more pink coloring to the final metal rendering. It measures 2 3/8" in length and 5/8" at its widest point. The pin back has a "C" clasp. Just lovely!

Thank you so much for your interest in my auction and for your question. There are no markings on this piece, which is not unusual for a piece this old unless there is Sterling content and that would indicate that was likely an English made piece since it has been British Law for more than two hundred years to mark items of Sterling because "Crown Sterling" was and remains the mode of currency for the British Isles. Not so, in America. It was not until the 1930s that laws regarding the marking of metal content were put into play in America. These historic facts are essential in dating and determining country of origin for antique jewelry.

Do you know anything about antique furs

I am at the top of my game when it comes to furs. I buy, sell, restore and restyle. It is my great love. I just recently listed a vintage fox fur hat on here and it went with the GIN. I have others I will be listing.

Very very pretty.. I'm no expert but have found some amazing finds at flea markets. Can you take a peek at my last auction I have listed. I have asked Listia to help me identify a gold cameo charm. I also have a bar pin listed..not as pretty as yours though. xoxo-Bern

Hi Bernadette,

Glad to help. I've looked at your lot...wonderful pieces. You will be surprised to realize that the Cameo is the least valuable of them. It is a "Scatter Pin" (small pins worn in multiples) from the 1940's. Your Bar Pin is exquisite. It is Victorian with heavy gold sheet plate overlaying brass. The Gold is probably 8kt but could grade as high as 12kt. And then, you have a divine and dreamy little piece that is Art Nouveau, my favorite era. That puts it as late 1800s to no later than 1910. If I needed to be exact, I would put it between 1900-1905. It appears to me to be STERLING...is it marked? If so, it is European. The Pearls are almost definitely genuine pearls. Truly a treasure! The pin with the square insets, are "Moonglow" Lucite from the mid-1940s. Your most valuable items in today's market set by today's collectors, are the 2 smallest pins: Masonic Lodge and it's sister group, The Eastern Star. I would need to know more about them like if they have any markings, in order to valuable them; but they appear to be older ones and are quite collectible. If you wish a dollar appraisal and advice on how best to market your beautiful collection, you may email me directly: trulyvintagetrading@yahoo.com

I'm happy to help...especially a budding antique collector with a brilliant 'eye'!

Hugs, Linde
