Authentic and genuine 1940 Nazi German telegram and 2 pieces of Nazi ephemera..I don't read German, so I don't know what it all is--would make a good research project!! Questions & Comments
Do you mind if I ask how this came into your possession (estate sale, antique store, etc.)?
I studied history & specialized in WWII & I've personally never seen an authentic Nazi telegraph in person. Many of the upper echelon committed suicide inside their bunkers once the Reich fell & destroyed evidence of orders they'd sent beforehand. I've seen copies of SS & Luftwaffe orders. So I was just curious of its origin/how it came to you. It's a really interesting piece =)
Ah, I see....another history buff!! :) I got this--and other WWII German pieces--from an ephemera dealer in Germany. They have ephemera from the 18th century on up to present day--and not just German, but stuff from all over the world...so you can spend a lot of money rather quickly if you're a history buff!! ;) I didn't mean to sound curt when I responded to your first message; I guess I was a little on the defensive side because I didn't know where you were going with your question...I've had some rude messages from people who take offense to my listing anything with a "hakenkreuz" on it....
No not at all. It's your listing & you have the right to be cautious. I'm just always wary because nowadays vintage pieces & antiques are "in" (or whatever you'd call it) & people make copies of stuff so whomever sold it to you could have easily told you it was real. People even fake patinas on larger pieces (like tables, statues, etc). But that's a really neat back story. Good to know!
Wow! I may have to save up and bid on this! I'm fanning and watching for sure! I need a favor. I need people to go to my watcher's auction please. It's for the Tim Holtz Embossing Folders. (Sizzix). Thanks! Actually, he's right. I am a history teacher. There are some authentic posters out there, but you have to know where to look.Unusual because of the markings. Interesting...
I think this is a great listing. Anything we can learn about history, whether it be good or bad, serves a purpose for the younger generation in their learning.
