Questions & Comments
Hi there! This is a very nice flask, however I don't think it's from 1883. I believe the stamp reads Feb 14-18 ; 83, or 1983. Still a great item, but more vintage than antique.
VERY NICE..but the date says 14-18 : 83 not 1883..have many pieces dated the same way..Doesn't make it any less Desirable :) Took some of them to Southeby's..when they did Free Appraisals..to learn this..
Zinn is German for tin, which, as in many European languages, is also used for pewter (pewter is principally composed of tin).
Since the mark says "Germany", they were obviously made for export.
Other pieces by this firm are souvenir type objects from about 1900-1930, and that would fit with the style of these candlesticks. However, some Freiling pieces have 95% marks (meaning the pewter is 95% tin), which suggests Freiling continued into the mid 20th Century. Thought this would Help clarify things :)
