Description

The listing, 1930's Authentic Colorado Sales Tax Token...PLEASE READ! has ended.

This is a genuine 1930'S Colorado Sales Tax Token. During the 1930s 12 states issued & used these tokens as a way to exchange Sales Tax amounts that were less than One Cent. They were denominated in fractions of a cent, or "Mills". As you can imagine, people did not like having to carry a second set of coins. By 1961 all of these tokens had been eliminated.

Thanks for the comment Chris...We buy dealer bulk lots of U.S. coins as we're avid collectors and it's not unusual for us to find odd things like this when we buy bulk which is where this came from. We've found a few of these over the years along with some international coins but have no interest in keeping them.

Yes....Actually history is what prompted my love of coins and stamps. I've always been a patriot and love learning everything I can about our nations history. We'd keep these tax tokens if we didn't have so much of everything including our hearts, invested in our U.S.coins. When I hold a 100 or 200 year old coin I can't help but to think about and imagine the lives of all those that held that coin in their hand before I. If only coins could speak!

In fact I have a few 1800's coins listed right now....It's mind boggling, the stories those coins could tell.......
