Description

The listing, Cross Crucifix with Stations of Cross Pendant has ended.

This crucifix is indeed unusual and very beautiful. It is highly and elaborately detailed with the entire Passion of Our Lord and the Stations of the Cross engraved on the back side.

The front holds the symbols of the Four Evangelists on the sides, top and bottom of the Corpus.

The corpus itself is also very beautiful with nice detail from the INRI atop the cross down to the nail in the feet of Our Lord.

This crucifix measures a full 2 and 1/2 inches.
The crucifix has a jump hoop so that it may be worn around the neck on a chain or attached to a scapular or rosary.

I believe it is gold plated.

Oops - sorry, I just saw that this was a stations of the cross pendant, so it doesn't say where the relic is from on the back.

All it says is Roma. So don't really know but I think it is resin.

Is there a stone missing on the bottom part of the cross (front side)?

not that I can tell. It seems to be some kind of soft stuff there like a balm or something. I got this at an estate sale and it looks like there was more in the small space, and some has been used up. I don't think there was any stone there.

I looked up on google some similar ones and there is the same open spot under the crucifix and they call it a relic earth there. Hope this helps.

I've seen these before - its a relic crucifix. The dirt held under glass (or resin) is probably from the catacombs of Rome where many of the early martyrs were buried. It may say on the back of the crucifix where the relic is from.
