i have played this game a couple times and no you dont need a gun all you need is the nunchuck and the wii mote

that's wouldn't be the cause at all when it comes to Wii. It would say if you can use the GameCube controller like you can in Brawl or Zelda....

look on the back of the case. Top left to show you how many players. It would have the GameCube controller shape on there as well
