Hauppauge WinTV-HVR-1600 74551 LF HP 5188-7111 ATSC NTSC TV tuner card. The WinTV-HVR-1600 brings over-the-air high definition ATSC digital TV and analog cable TV to your PC. Watch and record TV in a window or full screen using high quality MPEG-2. It uses a hardware MPEG-2 encoder, so you don't slow down your PC while recording. With MPEG data rates from 2 to 8Mbits/sec, you decide how much hard disk space your videos will consume (the lower the data rates, the less disk space your videos will consume, but with lower video quality).

xp/vista should also run in comparability mode if using 7 or 8. I've read that it also works with Linux but if you're using Linux platform, you'll need to look into it. i'm not that familiar with linux

The remote is more for the software than the hardware. if you use windows, Media center works great and media center remotes are cheat these days on eBay or amazon. I suppose if your planning on connecting video to tv a remote would be logical but if you're going to use it sitting at you p/c it shouldn't be needed
