Description

The listing, America's Greatest Hits, Vol. 2: 1951 has ended.

The second volume in Acrobat's fine survey of American pop hits of the '50s done year by year (six volumes have been released so far, reaching up to 1955), this one covers 1951 with a generous 25 selections, including Les Paul & Mary Ford's chugging and atmospheric "How High the Moon," Rosemary Clooney's sultry "Come On-A My House," Frankie Laine's sparse and theatrical "Jezebel," and Jo Stafford's joyous "Shrimp Boats." America was still in an era of melody in 1951, but as the '50s drew to a close, rhythm, of course, began to be the driving force on the pop charts. Hopefully, Acrobat will continue the series through to the early '60s, thus presenting an interesting way to chart the subtle changes that led up the big beat of rock & roll and R&B taking over the airwaves.
