I know for a fact that these trees love north florida but they can be invasive so I'm not sure if north florida likes them! lol Seriously thow , check your pH because it gets a little salty there, Empress can grow in just about anything but it does best with 5.5 to 6.0 pH. They grow very quickly which means that they are a soft wood and can withstand strong winds because of their ability to bend. If you enjoy small wood working projects you can simply cut one down and it will grow right back from root, excellent shade tree and very attractive! I hope that helps :)

If you add a little compost and manure to the sandy soil it should be fine.
