You are bidding on a Poster - "Tournee du Chat Noir de Rodolphe Salis" It is from a SMOKE FREE and PET FREE home.
This poster got a little squished in the move, but I think you could press out the wrinkles. They are mostly surface and have not damaged the paper. There are some small tears along the edges and one small stain and tear in the 4th picture. It is 36" X 24".
Even with the wrinkles it would be very nice framed.
A little history - It translates as "The Tour of the Black Cat." The poster, which was designed by Théophile Steinlen, was originally used to advertise a tour by Salis' "Théâtre d'ombres" theatrical group in 1896 at his infamously popular cabaret-théâtre.
The black cat was already associated with a certain provocative, animalistic, sexual intelligence at that point, and it soon became symbol of the baudy, irreverent humor and the provocative art created by the actors and artists of Montmartre (at that time a northern suburb of Paris) during that period. The adjective "chatnoiresque" ("blackcatty") was coined specifically for that purpose.
