I am so sorry about your little guy. We've been through something similar with one of our little dogs. He was like our baby. We didn't want to have him put down but he was suffering and in pain and even though letting him go was hard and hurt us we felt that it would be selfish of us to hold on to him and put him through that pain any longer to keep him with us. Its a hard decision to make but we know in our hearts that he never left us. We held him and talked to him and told him we loved him and always would. Then we let him go. I'm not telling you what to do, its a choice only you can make and its a tough one, but just know that whatever you do, as long as you love him and he knows it he will never leave you. He will always be in your heart and watching over you.
Sorry I didn't mean to go on and on. Just trying to let you know I understand. Bless you & your baby!
