The listing, KATSURA C japonicum Tree BONSAI 6 SEEDS has ended.
VERY RARE Katsura is a deciduous, single or multi-trunked tree, with a rounded habit. Katsura reaches a mature height and spread of 40 to 60 feet with a symmetrical canopy. Leaves are rounded with a heart-shaped base, to 4 inches long. New leaves are reddish turning a pale green in summer, then turning spectacular shades of orange, yellow and red in the Fall. Autumn leaves can be fragrant, with varying scents of caramel cinnamon, burnt sugar or ripe apples.
Katsura is dioecious (male and female flowers are on separate trees). Small green to reddish-green flowers are inconspicuous and are produced in early spring, followed by clusters of small greenish seed pods filled with numerous tiny winged seeds.
Katsura has a shallow root system and some of the roots can grow to six inches in diameter or more above the soil. The trunk normally flares out at the base, gracefully dividing into the numerous shallow roots often prominent at the soil surface.
